Oh Baby! Makeover For Mom

Thursday, July 3, 2008

Everyone who has been a new mom or even been around one, knows that time is a precious commodity. But when we asked new mom (for the second time) Dawn Lynn if she wanted to spend a few hours at Jon Tomas Salon and Spa to get a new look, it didn’t take much convincing! An ITS computer teacher at Willowbrook Elementary School, Dawn and her husband Mark are the parents of two boys: Joe, who’s almost 2, and 3-month-old Matthew. And since a new hairstyle and updated makeup can’t take away all the stress, we asked local fitness and cosmetic experts how new moms can stay in shape, both physically and mentally!

THE NEW LOOK

Hair: Dani, hair stylist and makeup artist at Jon Tomas, was in charge of giving Dawn a new ’do. “Since her eyes are a really dark, deep shade of blue, I went with an auburn hue to brighten them up,” she says. “I put in a few golden highlights to give her a sun-kissed look and brought the length up to balance the proportions of her face. Layers give her volume on top, and I kept it a little longer in front so she could still pull it back if she wanted.” It’s a style that could work for lots of moms, whose days involve toting around little ones. “It’s easily manageable, and she has a lot of options on how to wear it: straight, curled under, flipped up,” Dani points out. “She can do work on it a lot or a little, and get different results.”

Makeup: Rosalyn Kozal, hair stylist and makeup artist at Jon Tomas, wanted to brighten up Dawn’s face, so she applied bronzer to highlight her cheekbones and added a warm gloss on her lips. “For her eyes, we highlighted the upper brow and put a darker shade in the crease,” Kozal explains. “We used a black-brown eyeliner on the top and just a little on the bottom. Along with lash extensions, this really made her eyes pop.” She suggests that new moms who don’t have a lot of time always apply mascara to avoid looking tired, bronzer to give their face a glow and lip gloss to soften their look.
